• Congratulations to Paula Schmidt, who received the Historic Irvington Community Council’s Founder’s Award on Oct. 24 in recognition of all the hard work she has put into the annual Luminaria and other Irvington projects.
• The Weekly View’s columnist and Executive Director of the Irvington Historical Society, Steve Barnett, has been named Marion County Historian by the Indiana Historical Society and the Indiana Historical Bureau. Congratulations, Steve!
• The Auxiliary to Community Hospital East will sponsor a Masquerade $5 Jewelry and Accessories Sale “Around the Clock Sale” in the breezeway near the main lobby. The sale begins Wed., Nov. 2 at 7 p.m., and ends Fri., Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. Proceeds to benefit hospital programs/services. • There is a North Brookside Park Fall Cleanup slated for Sat., Oct. 29 from noon-2:30 p.m. Meet at The Oaks Academy at Park Ave. and 24th.
• Old Bethel United Methodist Church will offer a Service of Prayer for the community as the Election draws closer on Nov. 1 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. No flyers, buttons, t-shirts or anything representing any candidate or party will be worn, displayed, or shared. A church member suggested the service as a way of healing the divisiveness and worry as the elections draw near. Everyone is welcome to the service.
• Historian Paul Diebold will hold a book signing and sale at the Red Key Tavern, 5170 N. College Ave. on Nov.2 from 6-8 p.m. His latest, History and Architecture of Meridian-Kessler will be available for only $15. At 7 p.m., he’ll give a brief talk about College Ave. Part of the proceeds go to preservation efforts in Meridian-Kessler.
• Tech High School teacher Mrs. Griffin is organizing The Urban Media Project, where young people learn aspects of publishing on and off line. • A spectacular group of Western paintings and Native American artifacts collected by former NFL Tennessee Titans owner Kenneth S. “Bud” Adams, Titan of the West, goes on exhibit Nov. 12 at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, 500 W. Washington St. It is one of the largest and most historically important bequests the museum ever has received. The special exhibition opens Nov. 12, continues through Feb. 5, 2017, and is included with regular museum admission of $13 for adults, $11 seniors, $7 for youth 5-17. The second weekend of the Adams exhibit Nov. 19-20 coincides with the Sunday Nov. 20 away game that the Tennessee Titans play against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Eiteljorg invites Titans football fans who are in Indianapolis for the game weekend to visit the Titan of the West exhibition.
