• Get in the Halloween mood early at Theater at the Fort Oct. 21-29 at performances of the Shadowland Show. This is a eerie theatrical ghost story with audience participation. • This Sat., Oct. 15, Irvington Development Organization will host a Streetscape Spruce-Up Day from 8 a.m.-noon. Meet in the library parking lot (corner of East Washington & Audubon) at 8 a.m. for coffee and doughnuts and form up into teams to beautify the streetscape from Ritter to Bolton Ave. Contact margaret@irvingtondevelopment.org for more information and to volunteer.
• Speaking of Irvington, the hottest tickets on the planet (we may be exaggerating a little) will be to the Halloween Masquerade Ball on Oct. 22 at 8-midnight at Irvington Ice and Coal, 400 S. Ritter (they may be sold out by the time this is published) and the Monsters Ball Costumed Roller Derby at Ellenberger Park, 5301 E. St. Clair, on Oct. 22 from 5:30-9:00 p.m. The Circle City Derby Girls and Race City Rebels play in a co-ed costumed bout. Tickets are available online at Brown Paper Tickets for only $10 each. These two events kick off a whole week of Halloween festivities in the most haunted neighborhood in the midwest. Check out the Web site www.irvingtonhalloween.com. • Legendary jazz pianist Roy Meriwether will make a rare Indianapolis concert appearance on Sun., Oct. 23, 6 to 9 p.m. at Chef Joseph’s, 115 E. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. Meriwether’s long career includes more than a dozen albums under his name, dating back to the late 1960s. Indiana Music and Entertainment Museum (IMEM) is sponsoring his appearance. Tickets are $20 and are available on Eventbrite and at the door.
• The NEAR Fall Open House/Tour will be on Sat., Oct. 15 from noon-4 p.m. beginning at 558 N. Hamilton Ave. Tour some of the nine affordable (80% AMI income restricted) homes NEAR is currently developing on Hamilton, Jefferson, and Keystone, along with the first two new market rate houses constructed in St. Clair Place. There’ll be good food, live music, fun for kiddos, and helpful information about affordable homeownership in a great neighborhood just east of downtown Indy. Get out and see what great things are happening on the near eastside of Indy!
