Marion County will host final leg of the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay began today in Indiana’s first capital, Corydon and will travel over 3,200 miles visiting all 92 Indiana counties. Join in celebration of the Torch Relay and the final leg through Marion County on Oct. 15. The Marion County portion of the relay will commence at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway and culminate at the Indiana Statehouse where there will be a Hoosier Homecoming event to celebrate the end of the Bicentennial Torch Relay.
On Oct. 15 the Torch will be carried by 34 torchbearers, each chosen by the Marion County Torch Bearer Selection Committee. The committee, led by Steve Campbell, selected these torch bearers to represent the history and diversity of Marion County.
The Relay will pass many historic and cultural sites like Marian University, Indianapolis Museum of Art, Butler University, Indiana Blood Center, Benjamin Harrison Home, Monument Circle, Fountain Square, Lucas Oil Stadium and many more. There will be community celebrations taking place along the 16 mile route.
The relay will employ modes of conveyance that are symbolic of the history and heritage of Indiana, specifically Marion County, including antique Indianapolis Fire Department firetrucks, Stutz Bearcat automobiles, BlueIndy Cars and others. The Indiana Bicentennial Experience is a museum on wheels that celebrates the history and culture of the Hoosier State.
