Applause!: July 22-28

• Looking for a fur-ever friend? Indianapolis Animal Care and Control will host a Clear the Shelters pet adoption drive Sat., July 23 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. at their location, 2600 S. Harding Dr. For just $10, you can adopt a shelter cat or dog. All animals have been vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered. The Weekly View’s Office Cat Lola, and the Edit Dog Lucy give this event two paws up!
• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence will feature Shari Wagner on July 26 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at The Theater at the Fort on Indy’s east side, 8920 Otis Ave. Visit www.partnershipsforlawrence.org  for more information about the reading and other exciting events coming to the Theater at the Fort.
• The Historic Irvington Community Council’s newest initiative, The Irvington Legacy Project, will be funded by money from sponsored events such as the Halloween Festival. Every year, the Council will vote to help a neighborhood project needing assistance. Recently they announced The Irving Circle Fountain Project will be the 2016 recipient, with funds going to assist them in replacing the fountain in Irving Circle Park.
• On Fri., July 22 from 4-7 p.m., swing by the Community Food Fest at the Indianapolis Recorder, 2901 N. Tacoma for some great food, music, raffles, and much more. Check out the positive things happening in the Martindale-Brightwood neighborhood!
• The last Entertainment on the Plaza concert will be held July 22, featuring New Odyssey. The show begins at 7 p.m. at the Greenfield City Plaza and Hancock Co. Courthouse south lawn. Bring your own chairs or blankets for seating; there are no rain date or sites. Admission is free.
• Eastsiders take note: Rural St. will be closed at 123 S. Rural until Sept. 30 for a Rebuild Indy project. It is a street reconstruction from Newton Ave. to Moore Ave.
• After only two years, Sims Boxing Gym at 4615 East 10th St. is expanding. They purchased the two attached buildings, and are working on expanding the space, which they hope will be open by fall. Sims Boxing Gym has helped many of our local youth build character through mentoring, tutoring and boxing. If you would like to help out or donate to the cause, call 317-832-8984.
• The Quilters Guild of Indianapolis South will hold a meeting July 28 at 1 p.m. at the Friedens United Church of Christ, 8300 S. Meridian. Cathy Franks will be the guest speaker, talking about final steps for finishing quilts. Visit www.quiltguildindy.net for more information. Guests are welcome.
