From The Indianapolis Star, Tuesday, June 6, 1916: A large crowd was on hand when The Friends of Irish Freedom held their first meeting last evening at Morrison Hall, 52½ Monument Place, in the interest of the Irish Relief Day Fund. The gathering followed the regular meeting of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Maurice Donnelly, manager of the Terre Haute Brewing Co, said that war conditions had increased the cost of living in Ireland from 300 to 700 percent. Insurance agent Patrick J. Kelleher paid tribute to the “Dublin patriots, white souled heroes,” and said the British in their stupidity had done more to advance the cause of Irish freedom than they knew. The Irish Relief Fund has received $538.53 (2015: $11,834) in contributions so far. The next meeting will be at Fountain Square Hall.
