INDIANAPOLIS – TThe City’s high weeds and grass program is about to kick off for the season.
In the coming weeks, the City of Indianapolis will dispatch inspectors to visit neighborhoods that have had the highest rates of weeds and grass violations. DCE inspectors and mowing vendors will assess various areas around the City in order to encourage property owners to properly maintain their lots, a practice which can also help minimize blight in neighborhoods. Vegetation over 12 inches in height is considered “high weeds and grass” and is a violation of the City-County ordinance.
Property owners who receive a notice of violation have five days from the date the notice is mailed to mow the overgrown property. If a property owner fails to mow the property, the City will send a mowing vendor to bring the property back into compliance. The property owner will be billed for the service at a minimum rate of at least $363 per lot.
Residents may report a high weeds and grass violation by calling the Mayor’s Action Center (MAC) at 327-4622, by logging on to RequestIndy at www.indy.gov/requestindy, or by using the RequestIndy Mobile Application.
