INDIANAPOLIS — On March 26, the Howe boy’s basketball team took on Lapel — their first showing in any state championship. Despite a great effort from the team, coaches, and fans in the stands at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse, Howe lost to Lapel 59-37. The team ended the season with a 23-8 record.
Just before tip-off, players shook hands and displayed exceptional character throughout the game. Brian “Kipp” Warren was also awarded the Arthur L. Trester Mental Attitude award for Class 2A. The IHSAA Executive Committee presents the Arthur L. Trester & Ray Craft Mental Attitude Awards to the outstanding senior participant in each classification of the boys’ basketball state finals. The recipients of these awards, who were nominated by their principals and coaches, must excel in mental attitude, scholarship, leadership and athletic ability in basketball. The Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever, the presenting sponsors of the state tournament, donate a $1,000 scholarship to each school in the name of the recipient.
Congratulations to the Howe Hornets basketball team, coach Mosi Barnes, supporters, and alumni for a great season.
