Applause!: March 18-24

• Congratulations to Howe High School boys’ basketball team, which won their first regional title since 1981 on March 12! They will be at Richmond High School in Richmond to fight their way to the Semi-State title at 1 p.m. March 19. A group of Howe alumni will be going, meeting at Howe at 10:30 a.m. on March 19 to carpool to the game. E-mail Debi Shank at debialumsec@hotmail.com to indicate interest in going with them. They’ll probably stay for the second game with Southport as well.
• Warmer weather has brought out the dandelions — and the potholes! Visit the city Web site at indy.gov/requestindy, use the free RequestIndy app for smart devices, access the Pothole Viewer at indy.gov/indypotholeviewer or call the Mayor’s Action Center at 327-4622, to report a pothole and help DPW maintain safer roadways all around Indy.
• The Poets Laureate of Lawrence monthly series continues with a reading by Gregg DeBoor on March 22 at 6:30  p.m. at the Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. Gregg is a well known spoken word performance artist and author of Street Girls Have Guns. • Just in time for spring, the Warren Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library will host a kite-making class for kids on March 22 at 4 p.m. Kids ages 6-12 are invited; call 275-4550 to register for this free class. The Warren Branch is located at 9701 E. 21st St.
• There will be a facilitated walk to start off Holy Week at the Rivoli Park Labyrinth at 943 N. Kealing Ave. The walk will be at 3 p.m. In addition, save the date for a picnic potluck on World Labyrinth Day on May 7 from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
• The annual Benton House Easter Egg Hunt will be on March 26 at 10 a.m. Bring your own basket and meet the Easter Bunny on the grounds of the historic Benton House, 312 S. Downey Ave. Come by and see the early spring blooms in the garden and let the kids have some fun!
• Learn how to make a compost bin from recycled pallets on March 20 from 5-7 p.m. at Agrarian. Cost is $55 per person and includes materials to build the bin, which you can take home with you! Agrarian is located at 1051 E. 54th St. Call 493-1166 for more information.
• The Irvington Garden Club recently elected their 2016-17 officers. Beth Leszynski was named President, Ed Myers Vice President, Julie Oltean Secretary, and Mike Lewis Treasurer. Nancy Boettner was named Market Master for the Farmer’s Market.
• Green BEAN Delivery, headquartered on the east side, recently expanded their services to include Shelbyville, Greensburg, and Marion, plus locations in Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee. They have six major distribution hubs throughout the Midwest and South.
