INDIANAPOLIS — Walker Career Center’s (WCC) engineering students competed in the Phoenix Contact’s Nanoline Industrial Automation and Control Competition. Mr. James Hanson took a team of six students to complete at Purdue University on Feb. 6 against other top high school teams. After an outstanding presentation and demonstration, the WCC team was selected as one of the top three teams in the Midwest Region and will advance to the national competition which will take place in Pennsylvania. The team was also awarded the Excellence Award for Team Work.
The students developed a “Kitchen Assistant and Organizer: KA+O” (Pronounced “Kay-Toh”. The purpose of this device is to serve as an accessible and automated food storage and inventory system for areas with limited space. The Nanoline PLC industrial controller is used to manage the inventory, as well as to control the device’s movable parts along with an iPad app that will collect inventory data from the Nano across the Internet.
