For many years, Howe High School, which used to be such an important part of the Irvington community, has seemed to be overlooked. It is not even on one of the community maps I viewed. I am here to tell you that Thomas Carr Howe Community High School is back.
It has been my privilege to get to personally work with and support the students and faculty at Howe, along with the other members of the Alumni Association. I see a football team that has just won the first football sectional and regional game in the history of Howe High School. These are respectful young men that respond to their coach in huddle with a “Yes, Coach” when asked if they are going to be respectful to others in the coming week, if they are going to work hard in class, and other positive messages.
There are so many other areas where this school is starting to excel. The new Principal, Tyler Small, is fully dedicated to bringing tradition and glory back to Howe. Everyone is working hard to make this a school of choice again. Contact the school if you want to find out more (317-217-1980).
Howe will play in the semi-state game against Monrovia Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Tech High School. At the Regional game against Scecina Nov. 13, the stands were full of alumni, faculty and students playing buckets with drum sticks (yes, I said buckets) and having a wonderful time. The community is encouraged to cheer on the team Friday night. Tickets for the Howe football Semi State game are on sale in Howe’s main office for $8.
