INDIANAPOLIS — Sammy Terry – a ghoul who emerged from his coffin each week to introduce late-night TV’s “Nightmare Theatre” on WTTV-4 in the ‘60s and ‘70s – will preside over an evening of spooky fun on Fri., Oct. 30, at Indiana Landmarks Center. He’ll be joined onstage by his famous guillotine. Doors and cash bar open at 6:45 p.m., film screenings begin at 7:30 p.m., and the event ends at 10:45 p.m.
Sammy will host a brief game show and introduce the 1925 classic The Phantom of the Opera, considered one of the best horror films of the silent era. Lon Chaney, who stars at the Phantom, created his own make-up for the role. For laughs, there’s a silent 1921 comedy short, The Haunted House, starring Buster Keaton.
The film will be screened in the Grand Hall, with Mark Herman providing spooky live organ accompaniment for the feature and a comedy short. Herman, an award-winning theater organist, will perform a short concert of classic scary music before the films.
General Admission is $12 ($10 for Indiana Landmarks members). Buy tickets online at silenthalloween2015.eventbrite.com, at the door, or call 317-639-4534.
