• IRT will present the World Premiere of April 4, 1968: Before We Forgot How to Dream by playwright-in-residence James Still , running Oct. 20-Nov. 15. Following five years of community listening projects with more than 50 Indianapolis residents after the historic events of Martin Luther King’s assassination April 4, 1968, Still’s play offers an intimate look at one family as history unfolds around them. There are several special events planned for the run of the show, including an IRTEA Talk on Nov. 1 at 2 p.m., Cookies and Coffee Series Nov. 5 at 2 p.m., a Happy Hour Nov. 10 at 6:30, backstage tours, and much more. • Work on repairing the Irvington Streetscape at Ritter and East Washington has begun. The city is rebuilding the intersection, removing pavers and restoring the pavers in the crosswalks. Traffic is being re-routed. Be patient as things get squared away. They will be fixing the streetscape at Audubon and Washington next spring.
• Nancy Pulley will be the featured poet at the Poets Laureate of Lawrence monthly series on Oct. 27 from 6:30-8:30 p.m at the new location, The Theater at the Fort, 8920 Otis Ave. in Lawrence. Admission is free; there will be an open mic following Pulley’s reading.
• Three Indiana painters whose impressionist works appear in galleries and collections across the U.S. are bringing their art home in a collaborative show at Indiana Landmarks’ Rapp Family Gallery at Indiana Landmarks. Award-winning artists represented by galleries throughout the country, Forrest Formsma, Beth Forst and Randall Scott Harden will present their works at the First Friday show on Nov. 6 from 6-9 p.m. The building is located at 1201 Central Ave. Admission is free.
• Volunteers, ages 50 or better, are urgently needed to help IPS students, grades 1 through 3, work on reading skills and a personal progress journal, through the innovative intergenerational OASIS Hi-Impact Program. Tutors are paired one-on-one with the same child throughout the school year. All training, materials, and ongoing support are provided by OASIS. • The final Near Eastside Neighborhood Summit of the year will be held at the Shepherd Community Center at 4107 E. Washington Street from 6:30-8:00 p.m on Oct. 29. Topics will include public safety, livability and leadership and neighborhood connections. The public is invited to attend.
