• Eastgate Neighborhood Association will be holding its fall meeting Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Warren Twp. Office, 501 N. Post Rd. City-County Councillor Ben Hunter, State Reps. • The 20th annual Indianapolis Marathon and Half Marathon, set to begin at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 17, will be run through Lawrence. The courses start with a loop through historic Fort Benjamin Harrison then heads north for a loop through Fort Harrison State Park. The half marathon then returns to the finish line while the marathon continues through the state park to Fall Creek Parkway. • Fall is in the air and Indy Parks is celebrating. Garfield Park Arts Center will offer autumn crafts at the Conservatory Oct. 24 from 2-3 p.m. Pre-registration is required. • Local readers are invited to join those in Indianapolis’ Sister City of Hangzhou, China for a unique shared reading experience presented by The Indianapolis Public Library and the Hangzhou Public Library. Beginning Oct. 22 and continuing through February 29, “2 Cities: Read. Snap. Share.” encourages individuals in each city to read selected books. They can then take photos of local sites identified in the books and share on social media using the hashtag #2CitiesReadSnapShare. Books to be read by Indianapolis residents are The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, Palm Sunday by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. and But They Can’t Beat Us: Oscar Robertson and the Crispus Attucks Tigers by Randy Roberts.
• There will be a Drugs and Gangs Awareness Workshop Oct. 31 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Friendship M.B.C., 1301 N. Goodlet Ave. The workshop will be presented by the City of Indianapolis, Dept. of Public Safety, and the Prosecutor’s Office. Residents can learn about the signs of gang involvement, learn about drug trends affecting the neighborhoods, and how to take action.
