From The Indianapolis Star, Thursday, September 2, 1915: Today is Orphans’ Day. Hoosier Motor Club members, driving 100 cars, will take children from various orphanages in Indianapolis for a long afternoon ride. After picking-up the tots, drivers will proceed to University Park, Meridian and New York Streets, to form a procession with honored guests James Whitcomb Riley and Mayor Joseph Bell in the lead. Before starting out, candy will be handed out and a photograph taken. Motion picture operators will be on hand to “catch” the joy riders, too. The cavalcade will motor around Monument Circle, through the business district, and out Indiana Avenue and around Riverside Boulevard. Crossing White River, it will proceed to 38th Street, drive past the Fairgrounds and out Millersville Road. Returning by the Noblesville Road, the children will be taken to their different homes.
