INDIANAPOLIS — Destiny Mathews, a current senior at Warren Central High School, represented the Walker Career Center (WCC) during the month of July at the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) 2015 National Leadership Conference in Washington D.C. Destiny, received a Silver medal in the Occupational Focus on Children event, one of 32 national STAR Events available to FCCLA students.
Destiny, along with her Adviser from WCC, Mrs. Lee Ann DeMoss were given opportunities to come together to listen to inspiring speakers, as well as to expand leadership skills, sharpen talents and explore career pathways. A definite highlight of the conference was a youth rally held on Capitol Hill for the dual purpose of celebrating the organization’s 70th anniversary and advocating for strong Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) education in schools. After the rally, Destiny was able to visit with Rep. Todd Rokita. She explained the importance of Career and Technical Education funding and how her classes have impacted her life.
