LAWRENCE — Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL has named a winner in its Flip Your Fridge Giveaway.
Launched on Earth Day, the IPL contest ended on Memorial Day with Julie Melick submitting the winning photograph, selected by random drawing, of her old refrigerator. Melick’s old fridge will now be picked up for recycling and replaced by a new ENERGY STAR certified model courtesy of IPL.
Customers entered the contest by photographing their old refrigerator or freezer and uploading it onto IPL’s Facebook page.
While the contest is over, IPL’s refrigerator and freezer recycling program, and recently increased $40 incentive offer, is available year-round. Any IPL customer with an outdated, energy-wasting refrigerator or freezer can qualify for the $40 incentive for participating in the recycling program.
Customers can conveniently schedule a time by calling (877) 395-5535 toll free, or by visiting IPLPower.com/DitchYourFridge. Many people use IPL’s recycling program as an easy way to properly discard of an extra unit kept in the garage or basement. Annual energy savings can add up to $150 over a year.
Units picked up through IPL’s Ditch Your Fridge program are transported to an appliance recycling facility operated by JACO Environmental. Its process converts 95 percent of each appliance back into recyclable materials. JACO also safely removes harmful materials from the old energy-guzzlers, and the foam insulation is safely incinerated to generate electricity.
