• Swing Shift Indy will be the featured band on June 12 at Entertainment on the Plaza starting at 7 p.m. The show is held on the lawn of the Hancock County Courthouse and City Plaza in downtown Greenfield. If you enjoy big band music, get out and enjoy this free concert.
• While you are at Talbott Street on Saturday for their fantastic art fair, you might also want to pop across the road to the Independent Music and Art Festival from noon-8 p.m. The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange, plus great music, local craft beer, and the VSA’s ice cream stand are worth a look-see. The VSA students create small bowls, which you can purchase and have filled with ice cream for only a few dollars! The VSA offers arts education to disabled students — a very worthy program.
• The Eskenazi Health Foundation recently announced that they have received $125,000 from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, and the money will go to expand the Future Promises program at Arsenal Tech. Future Promises is a program geared to improve the life course of pregnant and parenting teens through school-based health education and case management.
• The Hancock County Library will be taking book, CD and DVD donations on June 22 during library hours at the Greenfield branch (900 W. McKenzie Rd.). Proceeds from sales by the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library, a non-profit volunteer group, fund free concerts and children’s events.
• Residents of Emerson Heights and the Bosart Brown neighborhoods are invited to a pitch-in and meeting on June 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Irving Theatre, 5505 E. Washington St. The combined meeting will include a chance to socialize with neighbors, find out what is happening in the neighborhood, and hear from city officials.
• Center Stage Productions, in association with Southport Dept. of Parks and Recreation, will present Around the World in 80 Days June 12, 13, 19, 20 at Southport Park, 6901 Derbyshire. Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. except for June 20, when it will be at 2 p.m. Admission is free; bring your own chair or blanket and enjoy the show.
• The Indiana Pacers recently partnered with Connect2Help211 to help Hoosiers in need. The organization serves thousands of people in Indiana by maintaining a health and human services database to help connect people who need help and the agencies that provide services. Information and referral services can be accessed by calling 211.
• Did you know that Growing Places Indy has family cooking and nutrition classes? The four week sessions include info on gardening, cooking, and yoga. A new section begins June 25 and classes are on Thursday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at the Chase Near Eastside Legacy Center, 727 N. Oriental St. E-mail info@growingplacesindy.org for more information.
