Eddie Barnes, freshman at IUPUI majoring in Political Science is running for City County Council in newly formed District 18 (roughly from Washington St. on the north, south to Thompson, and from Emerson east to Grassy Creek).
Eddie was a 2014 Warren Central High School grad. His father John Barnes was State Representative in District #89 in 2009 through 2010. Eddie says “it’s in my blood” — his parents have taught him about civic involvement and responsible citizenship.
You wonder why such a young man would want to get involved in city politics? Eddie says “I shake my head when I see businesses leave and crime increase on the eastside.” Eddie wants to be an example to the young people who are too apathetic to even vote, by taking the community’s needs and concerns to the City County Council, He says, “why not me?”
District #18 just happens to have the $5 million dollar Cricket Field right in the middle of the district (he is pictured here holding a cricket mallet as an example of monies spent with no community involvement in the decision).
Eddie Barnes running for Council is a great idea — we need more young people in politics — they are our future.
