On March 13, 2009, the first issue of the Eastside Voice hit the streets. The four co-owners — Jeanne, Judy, Paula, and Ethel — believed that the east side of Indianapolis needed a “good news” newspaper. We knew that readers wanted information about their community. We also believed that local businesses would support the newspaper with advertising dollars. Within hours (not days, hours) of that first delivery, we started getting phone calls thanking us for publishing a newspaper covering stories the other papers overlooked.
In 2013, the Eastside Voice changed names to the Weekly View to better reflect our growing distribution and community coverage. We also revamped our Web site (weeklyview.net) and linked it with our full-page “flip” version which includes all the stories, comics, and ads found in the “paper-paper.” We also have a Facebook page (look for “Eastside Voice Community News”) where we post information that came in too late to get into our paper or Web site editions.
For the last six years, it has been our privilege to serve the community. We’ve grown in many ways: we have 500 distribution points throughout the Indianapolis metro area in 24 zip codes, thousands of online readers every month, and some of the most talented local columnists and writers gracing our pages every week. We’ve published the highly successful Woodruff Place Home Tour and Benton House Home Tour guides, plus last year’s Historic Irvington Halloween Festival guide.
We have been blessed with six years of success, thanks to everyone who has read, advertised, and contributed to the Weekly View. We have lots more in store for our seventh year — stay tuned!
