• There will be a pet food drive at the March 3 Butler vs. Georgetown men’s basketball game at Hinkle Fieldhouse. Fans attending the game are asked to bring bagged or canned dog and cat food and drop their donations in the barrels at the entrance. All donations will go to Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. The game tips off at 7 p.m. If you are not attending the game, you can contribute by bringing donations to the Fieldhouse during daytime hours Feb. 26 through game day.
• At the Feb. 23 Economic Development Committee meeting, City-County council members voted to pass a proposal to provide Angie’s List with $18.5 million in tax money to expand its headquarters on the near east side. The proposal will pass to the full City-County Council for a vote. According to the company, $10 million will go to Angie’s List to buy a parking garage and for infrastructure, $6.75 million to IPS, which owns the Ford building they want to buy, and $1.75 million for costs and contingency funds. The company plans to expand and add about 1,000 jobs by 2019.
• The Bonna Shops at 202 S. Audubon Rd. is celebrating their one year anniversary with an open house on Friday, March 6th from 5-9 p.m. The Shops house interior designer Lisa Wuertz (owner) Dream Designs Interior Design Services, along with Hampton Designs Boutique, Irvington Picture Frame Company, Customizable Designs by Desiree and Urban Plot.
• Quilters are invited to attend the upcoming March 12, Quilters Guild of Indianapolis General Meeting at 7 p.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 North Meridian Street, Indianapolis. • Indiana is a pretty flat place to live, but there are some great sledding hills in Indianapolis. Parks nearby with great sledding include Brookside Park (3500 Brookside Parkway S. Dr.), Christian Park (4200 English Ave.), Ellenberger Park (5301 E. St. Clair), Garfield Park (2450 S. Shelby St.), Paul Ruster Park (11300 E. Prospect St), and Southeastway Park (5624 S. Carroll Rd., New Palestine). Be careful out there!
• Looking for something warm to do? The Glendale Branch of the library invites adults and teens to monthly “Cooking Chats,” where they share information about cooking shows, Web sites, cookbooks, and more. The theme for the March 2 program is “Soups and Stews.” The chat begins at 6:30 p.m. The Glendale Branch is located in the Glendale Shopping Center, 6101 N. Keystone.
• Local oral surgeon Dr. Lawrence Falender recently selected a recipient for the Second Chance program, which provides a complete set of dental implants for someone in need. Dr. Falender has also participated in Operation Soldier Smiles, an Indiana program that provides dental care to military veterans in need.
