• The city of Indianapolis recently reversed its controversial decision to end the Christmas tree recycling program in Indy Parks after residents put up a hue and cry about the change. Residents can once again drop off natural, undecorated trees at Broad Ripple, Ellenberger, Garfield, Sahm and other locations until Jan. 31. You can also get rid of trees at the curb.
• IndyHumane’s outreach team visited several homeless camps over the holidays to provide free toys, treats, and food for residents’ pets — and food and assistance for their humans as well.
• The Windsor Park Neighborhood Association recently announced appointments to their board for 2015. The president is Jen Eamon, VP Chris Hartley, Secretary Andrew Frye, Treasurer Chris Flick, and members Mark Latta, Drew Howk, and Andy Tillman. Thank you for stepping up to help serve your community. Their first regular meeting will be on Jan. 21 at 7 p.m. at Spades Park Library.
• The first monthly NEAR Neighbor Forum of the year will be held Jan. 8 at 6 p.m. in the Chase Community Meeting Room of the John Boner Community Center, 2236 E. 10th St. The topic will be the new Indianapolis Landlord Registry. Guest presenters will be State Rep. Dan Forestal and Courtney Bennett of the Indianapolis Dept. of Code Enforcement.
• The Indianapolis Public Library invites the community to meet the CEO Jackie Nytes during a “We Love Our Libraries” tour. The first stop will be Jan. 27 from 6-8 p.m. at the Warren Branch, and other stops will be announced through the beginning of March. Participants can learn all about library services and express their opinions about how things are going at their local branches.
• The Hancock County Public Library will be taking donations of gently used books, music CDs, and DVDs on Jan. 12 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library in Greenfield. Use the side delivery entrance and ring the bell so a volunteer can assist you. Because of limited space, donations can only be made on this date. Proceeds from sales of these items benefit the Friends of the Hancock County Public Library programs.
• The Greenfield City Council will have a public meeting Jan. 14 at 7 p.m. at Keith McClarnon Government Center. Public meetings are a great way to find out what is going on in your community.
