IRVINGTON — Cabaret Poe is a full scale musical featuring the works of Edgar Allan Poe. A combination of drama and original music, Cabaret Poe has brought the madness and macabre delights of a literary master to the stage at the Irvington Lodge for the last five years — a major achievement for any original work. This year, Cabaret Poe will be presented Oct. 3-Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and a special performance on Thurs. Oct. 30.
Created by Ben Asaykwee, Cabaret Poe presents Poe’s poems and stories through music and dramatic vignettes. Asaykwee, a huge fan of Poe, created the show as a homage to the great writer, and to get people interested in readying the works themselves. Three characters, Berenice, Morella, and Zoilus, present the stories, which include “The Fall of the House of Usher,” “Annabelle Lee,” “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Masque of Red Death,” “The Black Cat” and the most famous piece of all, “The Raven.” This year, Morella and Berenice will be portrayed by original Cabaret Poe cast members Renae Stone and Julie Lyn Barber on select days, and Lauren Briggeman and Jaddy Ciucci will take on the roles in their absence. Sara Williams, as the specter of death, will perform throughout the run.
