From The Indianapolis Times, Wednesday, September 30, 1914: Discussion of the European War in the Indianapolis public schools, except where absolutely necessary in connection with certain class work, has been prohibited by an order issued by Superintendent Jacob G. Collicott. The matter was brought to the attention of the School Board last night, when a letter was received from the Woman’s Franchise League urging that no discussion of the war be allowed. Supt. Collicott stated he had directed the teachers, where it was necessary to discuss the war at all, to use the waste and desolation being caused by it as an argument for peace. Making the order a matter of record, the board concurred in a motion that there be no discussion of the war in the schools.
