From The Indianapolis News, Wednesday, September 16, 1914: The Indiana Section of the Society of Automobile Engineers met at the Hoosier Motor Club last night concerning headlight dimmers for automobiles. A committee with automotive executives John W. Esterline, George A. Weidley, and Howard Marmon was formed to seek cooperation with city and state officials on ways to eliminate the blinding glare from electric headlights currently used on automobiles. Committee members, and other members of the Hoosier Motor Club, will work with city and state officials in examining a number of dimming devices which are now on the market. A city ordinance is pending prohibiting the use of blinding headlights, but the subject of dimming headlights in the country is quite important, if not more so, because that is where driving is really dangerous.
