Indianapolis has lost a talented artist, loving mother and a sweet soul; Susan Hodgin, age 36, passed away on Friday, August 22, from cancer.
An east sider, with a studio at the Harrison Center for the Arts, Hodgin’s artwork has been featured in this publication several times. Her last show was in May at the Harrison, where she made a brief appearance, accompanied by her nurse, before returning to the hospital. Her pieces are still available for purchase at her studio at the Harrison. The next First Friday event at the Harrison (16th & Delaware) will be September 5, starting at 6 p.m.
Visitation for family and friends will be this Friday, August 29 from 4:00- 8:00 pm at Leppert Mortuary, Nora Chapel,, located at 740 E. 86th Stt. Her funeral service will be on Saturday, August 30 at 10 a.m., also at Leppert Mortuary, with the burial immediately following at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to her daughter Anna’s trust fund, BMO Harris Bank 1402 North Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46219.
The Weekly View staff will miss seeing her friendly smile and beautiful paintings. We extend our deepest sympathies to her husband and 2 ½ year old daughter.
In an interview earlier this year with Erin Hüber, published on the Mother Artist Published blog, Hodgin said regarding her battle with cancer: “I have had so much wonderful support from family, friends, and strangers through all of this. I have learned that no matter how weak I feel, that I am stronger than I know. I have learned that people are fundamentally kind. I have learned how close we all are to life and to death. I have learned that moments count so I had better enjoy them.”
