INDIANAPOLIS — The finalists for the 5×5 Arts and Innovation Prize Competition, re:MIX — Spinning Culture, Community and Place, will present their ideas on Friday, August 1 in the Harrison Center’s historic sanctuary at the corner of Delaware and 16th St. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the presentations will begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. Five finalists will present an innovative idea involving the arts and Indianapolis urban neighborhoods. The winning project will receive $10,000 to make it happen.
The finalists for the competition are:
1. Lance Boehmer – Indy Co-(H)op – an urban hops farm co-op that activates vacant lots and enhances Indy’s home brew culture through sustainable agriculture.
2. Phyllis Boyd – The Dreamhouse Project – turning abandoned homes into catalysts for revitalization and creative placemaking
3. Kristopher Owens – Overwhelming Underpass – creating a “Community Corps” that makes underpasses more user-friendly with the addition of better lighting, landscaping, and public art
4. Chad Campbell – Ascent – re-spinning old copper into a copper man holding a torch and cresting the top of the smokestack at the Harrison Center for the Arts
5. Matthew Osborn – Cooperative Maker Space – creating a facility that has studio spaces and access to a shared machine room for sculptors, furniture makers and artisans.
