INDIANAPOLIS — Q Artistry announces the return of ZirkusGrimm an original musical retelling of the Brother’s Grimm tales in a circus themed format at the organization’s home: the Historic Irvington Lodge, 5515 E Washington St.
ZirkusGrimm, a musical fantasy set in a macabre off-center circus and featuring many of the Grimm Brothers’ most popular stories, played to sold out audiences for the entire July 2013 run. Q Artistry is bringing it back for it’s second summer with more seating and two new musical numbers. Some of the stories returning with the musical are “Snow White,” “The Robber Bridegroom,” and “Hansel and Gretel.” Featured “circus acts” include a homicidal sharpshooter, a not-so-strong man, and a troupe of gloomy clowns.
Many members of the cast are returning for the encore performance, including Artistic Directors of two local theatre companies (Georgeanna Smith / NoExit Performance and Ben Asaykwee / Q Artistry) but will include many cast changes including local performers Paul Nicely, Julie Lyn Barber, Sally Scarborough, and Tiffanie Bridges. Other new faces will be Matt Hussong, Tim Hunt, Alex Raby, Katharine Reugger, Elise Lockwood, and JT Wood. Returning to the big top will be former Zirkus cast members Jaddy Ciucci, Maddie Deeken, Maria Meschi, Scott Russell, Ben Schuetz, Amelia Smith, Janice Hibbard, Griffin Lohner, Elsie McNulty, Logan Sejas, Morgan Patrick Roof.
ZirkusGrimm was written/adapted with original score and songs by Ben Asaykwee and will feature a live band lead by Michael Block.
Performances will be held July 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 24, 25, and 26. Performances are at 8 p.m. except for July 20 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission / $17 for students/seniors; advance sale tickets are encouraged, as last year’s performances sold out quickly.
