100 Years Ago: June 20-27

From The Indianapolis News, Monday, June 22, 1914: Five hundred businessmen received an instructive course Saturday in the efficiency and management of five Indianapolis public utilities during a Chamber of Commerce tour. The excursionists learned the T. H. I. & E. Traction power station has one of the highest efficiency ratings in the country in generating electricity for the city street cars and the four interurban lines. The large Indianapolis Water Co Riverside Station pumping engines have a 6,000,000 gallon daily capacity, and the filtration plant equipment enables Indianapolis to have one of the nation’s purest water supplies. Coke making at the Citizens Gas Langsdale Av plant produces a gas by-product that is distributed to the public at cost. Improvements at the Indianapolis Light & Heat and the Merchants Heat & Light plants were also inspected.
