INDIANAPOLIS — Film historian Eric Grayson will screen the classic sci-fi thriller, When Worlds Collide (1951), at 8 p.m., on June 14, at the Garfield Park Arts Center. This will be a print in original dye-transfer Technicolor, the gold standard in beautiful prints, according to Grayson. The film will be preceded by a cartoon. The film will be the first of three science-fiction films to be shown at the Center this summer. Grayson will also screen Rocketship X-M (1950) on July 12 and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956) on August 16, all part of the monthly Vintage Movie Nights.
When Worlds Collide, starring Richard Derr and Barbara Rush, involves a group of scientists who discover that a planet and a star are hurtling toward Earth at gigantic speed, and that Earth is doomed. There’s little more than a year to do something about it. Some people think it’s a conspiracy, some believe it, others don’t, and a core group build a rocket to escape the whole thing.
All Vintage Movie Night films are family-friendly. Admission is $5; concessions $1. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Free parking. For more information, call 317-327-7135 or visit www.gpacarts.org.
