INDIANAPOLIS — The Harrison Center presents Grey Gardens, the annual holiday, color-themed group show and the final open studio night of 2013 on Fri., Dec. 6 from 6 to 10 p.m. This year, the inspiration is taken from the 1975 documentary, Grey Gardens which chronicled the lives of “Big Edie” and “Little Edie,” the mother and daughter (Bouvier) Beales, cousins of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy. The Harrison Gallery and Gallery Annex will be filled with the grey offerings of dozens of local artists with a wide variety of mediums represented. Participating artists include Jeannine Allen, Mab Graves, Adam Collier Noel, Elyce Elder, Katie Basbagill, Patrick Flaherty, Tasha Lewis and many more.
The INDIEana Handicraft Exchange’s (IHE) Winter Mini will be held in the Harrison Center’s historic gymnasium with over 50 vendors and live music. IHE is a DIY contemporary craft fair that showcases the work of artists and crafters who use traditional crafting techniques mixed with a contemporary edge.
This month, the City Gallery features new work by painter, Jed Dorsey. Dorsey, a fourth generation painter originally from Washington state, now resides in the Holy Cross neighborhood on Indy’s near eastside. The Borshoff + Herron annual gallery show returns to Gallery No. 2 with this year’s exhibit, Words of Art. “Twitter is more than an addictive form of social media; it’s a hotbed for creativity. Every day, we come across Tweets that are hilarious, thought-provokingly deep, perfectly shallow or just plain brilliant. They’re little 140-character works of art. And for this year’s show, we’ve asked Herron students to visually re-imagine our favorite Tweets.”
The Harrison Center of the Arts is located at 1505 N. Delaware.
