INDIANAPOLIS — The Garfield Park Arts Center will host the exhibition “Photography and Poetry of John Sherman,” from November 2 to November 21. On exhibit (and for sale) will be 30-some large-format posters of Sherman’s poetry and photography. The public opening reception, with complimentary light refreshments and live music, will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 2, at the Center, 2432 Conservatory Drive, Garfield Park. The photos used on the posters were shot over the past several years in many U.S. locations, as well as Nigeria, Canada, France, Italy, England, Zaire, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Afghanistan, and Costa Rica. The focus of the exhibition is to illustrate Sherman’s grounding on a small family farm in Jay County and the years he spent living in Nigeria, Biafra, Malawi, Ghana, and then-Zaire, Washington, DC, and Santa Fe, NM, before returning to live in Indiana.
