• Did you know that Tech High School has a flock of chickens as part of their agricultural program? The flock is tended by the students at Tech.
• The Community Hospital East Auxiliary will sponsor a Fall Boutique sale on Thurs. and Fri., Oct. 3 and 4 in the breezeway near the Main Lobby.  Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Payment by cash, check or payroll deduction. Proceeds to benefit hospital services and projects. For further information, please contact Volunteer Services at 355-5120.
• Beech Grove will hold a City Council Meeting on Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at City Hall Chambers, 806 Main St. The meeting is open to the public.
• The City of Lawrence Common Council will hold its regular meeting Oct. 7 at 6:30 p.m at the George Keller Public Assembly Room of the Lawrence Government Center, located at 59th St. and Post Road.
• Volunteers are needed for planting, edging, mulching, prepping flower beds and more at Fletcher Park in the Windsor Park neighborhood on Oct. 10  from 9 a.m.-noon. Call Mark at 735-5227 or e-mail him at mark.schroeder.us@gmail.com for more information and to volunteer.
• The Rivoli Park Neighborhood (between N. Rural, E. Michigan, N. Sherman, and E. 10th) are having a Crime Watch Event Party on Oct. 5 on E. St. Joseph between N. Gray and N. Dearborn St. There will be a neighborhood yard sale between 10 a.m.-2 p.m., plus fun activities, Police Dept. representatives, and a chance to meet the neighbors. This neighborhood is working hard to improve, and everyone should applaud their initiative!
• First Friday is Oct. 4, and promises to be an interesting mix of arts, socializing, and more from 6-9 p.m. throughout the city. Always interesting is the Circle City Complex on Brookside right across from the new Fletcher Park space. Lots of local artists, including glass workers, jewelry, sculpture, and visual art. • Saw a performance of the American theatre classic The Crucible, Arthur Miller’s play set during the Salem witch trials. It’s a very intense production by the IRT, and well worth seeing. Performances continue through Oct. 13. Visit www.irtlive.com for the schedule and tickets. Next up for the IRT is An Iliad, adapted from Homer, that begins Oct. 16 and runs through Nov. 16.
• October means a whole month of Halloween around here, especially in haunted Irvington. People plan their costumes for months for the Halloween Festival around here. The east side is definitely the place to be for Halloween!
• Local family the Levine’s will be appearing on Family Feud on Oct. 7. TV station WNDY carries the show at 7 p.m., so be sure to tune in and cheer on your fellow Hoosiers.
