INDIANAPOLIS — Celebrate the contributions of the nation’s libraries and enjoy a variety of free activities for all ages at The Indianapolis Public Library during National Library Week, April 14 – 20, 2013.
The week draws attention to the role of libraries and library workers in helping citizens access resources and programs. In 2012, over 4.2 million patrons visited the Indy Library to learn to use eReaders, attend early childhood storytimes, develop resumes and apply for jobs online, research school and business projects, attend book discussions and cultural programs, meet accomplished authors, and check out materials in various formats. These and other activities are available for free with the use of a library card.
As a community place that welcomes all regardless of socioeconomic levels, the Library continues to evolve with new technology offerings and services to remain a vibrant, relevant and essential part of citizens’ lives.
Each day during National Library Week, Library locations will present free programs that appeal to all ages and interests. Highlighted events include “Hot Jazz for Cool Kids” on April 14 at 2 p.m. at Central Library featuring a live performance by the Bill Lancton MG6 band that will introduce children and families to jazz music; the “CIBA Lecture Series” on April 17 at 7 p.m. at Central Library featuring a bicycling travelogue on Sicily; “Celebrate Earth Day at the Green Library in the Park” on April 20 beginning at 10 a.m. at the Garfield Park Branch; the “Naptown Rock Radio Wars” documentary showing and panel discussion on April 20 at 2 p.m. at Central Library featuring Indianapolis DJs from the ‘60s and ‘70s; and the teen mystery program, “In the Shadow of the Vampyre,” on April 20 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne Branch.
Also, visit during “Library Snapshot Day” on April 18 when Library staff will be taking photographs of patrons and employees to help make the Library story memorable and compelling.
