INDIANAPOLIS — The Just Say No Club at Warren Central High School hosted Shawn Heiser who told us his family’s story about his niece Emily who was tragically killed in an accident on December 30, 2011. She was taking a friend home when she looked down at her phone to send a text. Her van went off the road and when she tried to over-compensate, the van flipped over and she was thrown from the car. She was not wearing her seat belt and was killed instantly. She was very involved in her high school at Jac-Cen-Del. She had just been accepted to attend IU in the fall. She had come up with a saying for her school, LIVE, LAUGH, LEARN!
She had a lot going for her and in 4.6 seconds her life was taken and the lives of her friends and family was changed forever. The Warren Central students who attended this convocation each signed a pledge that said, “I Will Not Text and Drive.” The hope is that each of these students will think twice before they send a text while driving.
