INDIANAPOLIS — Classic literature is tackled once again by local original works organization, Q Artistry (Cabaret Poe, Scary Mary), as they offer Grendel in a world premier adaptation written for the stage opening Feb. 1st. Based on the 1971 novel written by John Gardner and adapted by local playwright Joanna Winston (Gilgamesh, 2009 IndyFringe), the play will be presented for a limited run of 5 performances over 3 weekends in association with Half Black Productions.
Grendel is the re-telling of the famed Beowulf monster from the antagonist point of view. Hailing from the time of fur-clad warriors and mead halls, the play will give audiences the rare opportunity to view the world from the mind of a self-proclaimed “Son of Cain.” Grendel will take you on a wild journey underground, over land, to ancient idols, the grand halls of King Hrothgar, and even to the forgotten halls of an other ancient beasts, inviting the audience to ponder, “Who is the real monster — man or Grendel?”
Cast members include Jonah D. Winston as Grendel and an ensemble including Tom Cardwell, Dan Flahive, Jaddi Ciucci, Ben Scheutz, Pat Mullen and Leslie Chaney. Original music was composed for the piece by Ben Asaykwee.
