INDIANAPOLIS —Sun King Brewing Company, LLC, an Indiana beer brewery, announced plans today to expand its operations here, creating up to 32 new jobs by 2016.
The homegrown-Hoosier company, which is the state’s second largest beer brewer, will invest $3.9 million to add 1,850 square feet to its existing 2,700 square-foot facility located at 135 N. College Ave. in Indianapolis. The facility will house 240 barrel fermentation tanks to allow for an increase in beer production.
A 2011 “Company to Watch” recipient and 2012 “Company to Watch Spotlight” award recipient, Sun King Brewing currently has 34 full-time employees in Indianapolis. It is hiring production and delivery positions on an ongoing basis.
Established in 2009, Sun King Brewing brews and distributes handcrafted seasonal and specialty beers that are available on tap and in cans at hundreds of locations in central Indiana. The company’s beers have garnered multiple medals at the Indiana Brewers Cup, Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup competitions.
The Indiana Economic Development Corporation offered Sun King Brewing Company, LLC up to $240,000 in conditional tax credits and up to $60,000 in training grants based on the company’s job creation plans. These tax credits are performance-based, meaning until Hoosiers are hired, the company is not eligible to claim incentives. The city of Indianapolis approved additional incentives at the request of Develop Indy.
