IRT Hits a Home Run with “Jackie and Me”
INDIANAPOLIS – Jackie Robinson’s powerhouse contribution to the game he loved, and to the American civil-rights movement, are well-chronicled in Steven Dietz’s play for youth, Jackie and Me, opening on the IRT’s Upperstage January 11th, 2013 through February 16th. This exciting play illuminates Jackie Robinson’s courage and dignity in the face of cruel racial prejudice. Multimedia Artist Retrospective at UIndy
INDIANAPOLIS — A posthumous exhibition opening Jan. 14 at the University of Indianapolis will review the multimedia work of a longtime local artist and art teacher.
Quilts, watercolors and handmade books are included in Donna Maureen Stader: A Retrospective, which continues through Feb. 8 in UIndy’s Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center Gallery. The gallery at 1400 E. Hanna Ave. is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays. Admission is free. A reception is scheduled 4 to 6 p.m. Jan. 25 in the gallery.
Stader earned her bachelor’s degree from UIndy in 1969 and taught in public schools for many years before retiring in 2000. A Greenwood resident, she died in January 2012.
Unique Artwork at the Harrison
Moments of Thaw – cyanotype sculpture by Tasha Lewis is on display at the Harrison
Center (16th & Delaware) now through the end of the month. Cyanotype sculpture is a sun-powered fabric blueprint that has been collaged and hand sewn around a paper, wire, tape and wood form connected in many cases by high-powered magnets. More information on her website www.TashaLewis.info
Photography Exhibition in Greenfield
GREENFIELD — Greenfield Banking Company’s Art Gallery will feature the photography
of Todd Johnson during January and February, 2013.
In 1995, Todd Johnson pursued his interest in photography by purchasing one of Kodak’s first consumer digital cameras and now shoots with a Canon DSLR. Todd’s exhibit will include portraits as well as landscapes from his visits to Indiana State Parks, the Michigan Lake Shore, Chicago and Central Florida. A few of his pieces feature the unique application of photos onto aluminum which produces a crisp, clear photograph with a smooth finish.
