A grant of $1.4 million was awarded for the construction of the Pennsy Trail, Phase 2. Phase 2 of the project will take the trail from Shortridge west, eventually linking with the existing trail in Cumberland.
A $1.28 million grant was earmarked for the construction of the Emerson Avenue Corridor Gateway project, which will add sidewalks, enhance median plantings, and other elements from the I-70 interchange south to 16th St. The project was originally greenlighted in 2007, but ran into funding problems.
The Department also received a grant for Phase 2 of the Washington Street Streetscape for $320,000. These funds will apply to the project from Irvington to Emerson Ave. Phase 1 was completed last year, and included the East Washington commercial corridor in Irvington.
