INDIANAPOLIS — After working in Warren Township for 14 years, Deputy Superintendent Dr. Timothy Hanson has been named by the Board of Education as the MSD of Warren Township Superintendent of Schools as of July 1, 2018. Dr. Hanson, a native of Illinois, has earned five degrees in education — two degrees from Ball State University, as well as a degree from University of Cincinnati, Eastern Illinois University and University of Illinois at Chicago. He started his career in Indiana as a teacher at Hamilton Southeastern, then moved to Washington Township. Finally, he came to Warren Township in 2004 and has been in the district ever since. He served as the assistant principal at Stonybrook for the 2004-2005 school year, was the principal at Brookview Elementary for seven years and has been the assistant superintendent/deputy superintendent in Warren Township for the past six years.
Going into the 2018-2019 school year, Dr. Hanson hopes to start a couple of different community outreach initiatives. One is a superintendent-student advisory board to help improve the student involvement within Warren Township. The advisory board will focus on getting feedback from the township’s students and work on making improvements.
“Whatever experience our students have in Warren Township, I want that to be a phenomenal experience.”
The second outreach idea will be scheduling visits to each of the Warren schools to introduce himself to students and families. These visits will be scheduled alongside a school event and will focus on sharing information with the community and asking students and parents for input. The first of these visits will occur in August, 2018.
A goal for Dr. Hanson and the Warren staff for the upcoming school year is creating positive and productive relationships with students, families, and community partners.
“The hard work ahead of us will require our schools and community to work together.”
The first day of students under Dr. Hanson’s leadership is Mon., July 30th.

INDIANAPOLIS — Dozens of spectacularly decorated trees will be on display beginning Friday, November 22 as the Warren Arts & Education Foundation (WAEF) presents “25 Years of Christmas,” the 25th annual Warren Holiday TreeFest. A gift shop will showcase the latest in holiday décor, including one-of-a-kind treasures and hand-crafted items, while a concessions stand will be open for refreshments including sandwiches, beverages and fresh-baked cookies.
Hours for the TreeFest are 3:30 to 8 p.m. – Fri., Nov. 22; Mon., Nov. 25, and Tues., Nov. 26; noon to 4 p.m. – Sat., Nov. 23, noon to 8 p.m. – Sun., Nov. 24. Tickets are $4 per adult, and $3 for senior adults 65-plus and students. Children five years of age and under are free.
All trees are available for purchase prior to or during TreeFest (pre-sold trees remain on display throughout the event). The trees are ideal for home or office, and will be delivered free of charge within a 25-mile radius of Indianapolis at the event’s conclusion.
Celebrity Tree Decorators for the 25th anniversary event include Country Music Hall of Fame member JD Cannon of HANK-FM; WTHR-TV’s Nicole Pence; Indiana Pacers mascot Boomer; Jim O’Brien of Fox 59 Morning News; the Indiana Pacers Pacemates, and 1070 The Fan show host and former NFL player Joe Staysniak.
Judges select and award the top trees in six different categories: most elegant, most creative, best representation of theme, plus the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries from Warren Township Schools. In addition, every TreeFest guest will receive a ballot to vote for the Caroline Feldman People’s Choice Award, an honor named in memory of the late Mrs. Feldman and her 20-plus years of dedication to TreeFest.
Two special events are associated with the 25th Holiday TreeFest, both set for Saturday, November 23:
• Breakfast with Santa & Friends, 10 a.m. at the WPAC. A morning of food, fun, music, storytelling and more is hosted by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Warren Central High School choirs will entertain, and the Student Council will provide new stuffed animals to each paid child. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite holiday attire, and youngsters are invited to bring favorite stuffed animals to the event. Cost is $5 per person.
• TreeFest Buffet Reception & Benefit Auction, 6:30 p.m. at the Community Life Center, 10612 East Washington St. An elegant evening of good food and outstanding items offered via live and silent auctions. Tickets are $30 per person.

The Warren Performing Arts Center (WPAC), located at 9500 E. 16th St., is a premier facility for concerts and shows on the east side. On the campus of Warren Central High School, the WPAC is noted for its wonderful acoustics and diverse programming. It is the only arts venue on the east side of Indianapolis with a full time professional staff.
For the past 30 years, WPAC has offered world class arts with a friendly local touch. Thousands of people from the Indianapolis metropolitan area have attended shows in the comfortable, spacious theater over the years, and look forward to each new season of diverse programming. With easy access from major highways, the WPAC is able to draw audiences from all over Central Indiana.
The WPAC was built in 1983 and the auditorium seats just under 1,000 patrons. There are actually two stages: the Mainstage Auditorium, and the Studio Theatre, which seats about 112.
The Warren Performing Arts Center is home to the 1926 Barton Theatre Organ. The organ is owned by the CIC-ATOS (Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society) and was installed at the Warren in 1997. The CIC-ATOS acquired this majestic instrument in 1990, and under the supervision of Carlton Smith its members rebuilt and restored the organ to its original condition. This organ was originally installed in the old Indiana Theatre in downtown Indianapolis (now the IRT), and now the Grande Barton plays in the WPAC before professional artists’ shows, at CIC-ATOS concerts, and more. Visit cicatos.org or call 251-6962 for information about upcoming shows.
The Indianapolis Symphonic Band is the Ensemble in Residence at WPAC and is also an arts partner with the venue. They perform free shows at WPAC regularly — the next one is on October 29 at 7 p.m.
The Warren Performing Arts Center hosts many Warren Township Schools concerts and plays. In addition, the venue hosts a Professional Series of entertainment every year. This year, to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of WPAC, the most requested performers will be back on stage:
• War Bonds: The Songs and Letters of WWII on September 15 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. (Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 students and seniors.) A reception and 30th Anniversary celebration will follow the show.
• Ricky Skaggs January 19 at 4 p.m. (Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 students and seniors.)
• Purdue University Glee Club and the Singing Hoosiers: Together in Concert February 9 at 4 p.m. (Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for students and seniors.)
• The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra: Back Home Again in Indiana — The Music of Cole Porter & Hoagy Carmichael March 16 at 4 p.m. (Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 students and seniors.)
• Black Violin May 4 at 4 p.m. (Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for seniors and students.)
Tickets for the Professional Series are available online through the Web site www.warrenpac.org or by calling the box office at 532-6280. Advance ticket sales are recommended as the shows sell out fast.
