CORRECTION AND CLARIFICATION: In last week’s article, “Irvington’s Community Space for Arts,” we forget to tell you exactly where the 5547 Project is located. It is at 5547 Bonna Ave. We regret the omission. Thank you to the many readers who called and asked where it was. We corrected it in our online edition (weeklyview.net).
• Indiana Repertory Theatre’s last show of the 2014-15 season is On Golden Pond, showing through May 10. This has been the IRT’s strongest season to date, and performances have been selling out. What you may not know is for every performance there is a prologue, or pre-show discussion, hosted by IRT staff and artists. The prologue begins 45 minutes before curtain and concludes 20 minutes before curtain. They will also have a special Mother’s Day Brunch before the May 10 performance at 11:30 (show begins at 2 p.m.). Tickets are $25-$59 depending on times and dates. Call 635-5252 or visit www.irtlive.com for more information.
• Road construction on Ritter south of Ellenberger Park that prohibits southbound traffic from the Parkway to Washington St. is creating many headaches for drivers — and residents who are reporting increased traffic on side streets. Please be safe when driving — or walking and biking — on the streets around the construction zone.
• The Phoenix Theatre has always been the place for innovative productions, and their World Premiere of Typhoid Mary opening April 30 and running through May 24 promises to deliver another thought-provoking theatre experience. Written by Tom Horan, the show tells the story of Mary Mallon, the cook who became known as “Typhoid Mary.” The show stars Lauren Briggeman, Jolene Moffatt, and Ben Asaykwee. Following the performance on Sunday, May 3, there will be a post-show discussion on the ethics of medical quarantine, and other modern-day issues of medical ethics raised within the play. The show is for adults only. Tickets are $27-$33. Call 635-7529 or through phoenixtheatre.org.
• This year’s Bike to School Day will take place on May 6. Last year’s national Bike to School Day attracted 2,200 schools. National Bike to School Day occurs in coordination with the League of American Bicyclist’s National Bike Month and builds off the momentum of the national Walk to School Day. Several schools around central Indiana participated, including the Center for Inquiry at School 84 in Indianapolis. There is still time for a school to register to participate. If you are interested, more information is available at www.walkbiketoschool.org.
• Thank you to all the hard-working volunteers on the east side who picked up trash on April 11. The Emerson Heights Cleanup Crew came out strong, as did Windsor Park and Little Flower. When good people come together, good things are bound to happen!

• The Indianapolis Public Library will present a variety of special activities for all ages during National Library Week, April 12 – 18. This year’s celebration, “Unlimited possibilities @ your library,” recognizes the contributions of our nation’s libraries and librarians and to promote the use and support of all types of libraries. As a special offering throughout the week, the Indy Library will give each person who applies for a new Library card, or renews or replaces their card, a free “go green” tote. • The Pennsy Trail work along Ritter is starting. DPW will close part of Ritter Ave., limiting it to northbound traffic only, then close the NB lane and restrict it to SB traffic only in the near future. They expect to complete this leg of the project around June 8, then start work on the Bonna Ave. portion. After the Ritter portion is completed, DPW will turn their attention to the Bonna Ave. section that will run east from Ritter to Audubon, then to connect to the existing trail.
• Thank you to the road crews who did a terrific job fixing the “Boneshakers” around the city. There have been some real improvements in many of the major thoroughfares.
• The Great Indy Cleanup in Little Flower will be April 11 at 9 a.m. Meet at the Church, 4720 E. 13th St. KIB will supply gloves and equipment, including trash bags. If you are new to the neighborhood, this is a great way to get acquainted!
• NoExit Performance will present “Moby Dick” April 17-25 at the Wheeler Arts Community, 1035 Sanders St. NoExit’s productions are always thought-provoking and unique. Times are at 8 p.m. Fri. and Sat. performances, 6 p.m. on Sundays. Tickets are $23 or $13 for students and seniors, and are available online at Brown Paper Tickets (www.brownpapertickets.com).
• Congratulations to the winning alliance of Cyber Blue from Perry Meridian High School, Kil-a-Bytes from Lawrence North High School, and Panther Tech from Western High School in Kokomo for being the winning alliance at the FIRST Robotics Competition held at Warren Central April 3-4. The teams will move on to compete in the FIRST World Championship in St. Louis. Also qualifying for the competition is team Digital Goats from Walker Career Center.

INDIANAPOLIS — The Metropolitan Planning Organization recently awarded grants to the Department of Public Works for construction and engineering for several projects on the east side of Indianapolis.
A grant of $1.4 million was awarded for the construction of the Pennsy Trail, Phase 2. Phase 2 of the project will take the trail from Shortridge west, eventually linking with the existing trail in Cumberland.
A $1.28 million grant was earmarked for the construction of the Emerson Avenue Corridor Gateway project, which will add sidewalks, enhance median plantings, and other elements from the I-70 interchange south to 16th St. The project was originally greenlighted in 2007, but ran into funding problems.
The Department also received a grant for Phase 2 of the Washington Street Streetscape for $320,000. These funds will apply to the project from Irvington to Emerson Ave. Phase 1 was completed last year, and included the East Washington commercial corridor in Irvington.
