				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>• Save the Date: The 7th Annual Cumberland Arts Goes to  Market, will be held on Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. This year’s market promises to be bigger than ever, with an entertainment line-up that includes the Irish Airs, Wild Mercy, the Indianapolis Men’s Chorus, and Haley Jonay. There will be an expanded kid’s zone that includes activities with Art with a Heart, plus lots of shopping, and the Cumberland Farmers Market.  It all takes place on Saturn Street between Cumberland Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St. and Cumberland First Baptist Church.<br />
• Speaking of festivals and fairs, the east side Feast of Lanterns is scheduled for August 22 from 4-11 p.m. Right now, organizers are looking for financial support to help keep the Feast going. • Anthony Sims Jr., professional boxer and operator of Sims Boxing Gym, 4615 East 10th St., upped his pro record to 5-0 Saturday at Tyndall Armory with a knockout at 55 seconds of round number one. His opponent, Anthony Morgan, was making his pro debut. Four of Sims’ wins have come by KOs. Sims said he will concentrate on working with the Simsters, 60-plus  youngsters who have enrolled at the gym, for a month before fighting again in mid-August.<br />
• Caito Food Service, located at 33rd and Post Rd., has announced expansion plans for its distribution facility. They are looking to create an additional 342 jobs for the area once the expansion is complete.<br />
• The 35th annual @InConJunction InConJunction Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention will be held July 3rd &#8211; 5th at the Indianapolis Marriott East. Guests include Author Guests of Honor Timothy Zahn and Arlan Andrews and Music Guest of Honor Marian Call. Featured Guests include Barry Childs-Helton, Sally Childs-Helton, Mark C. Dooley of the Whoosier Network, Christopher Dunn, TammyJo Eckhart, Michelle Eubank Mussoni, Robert Pyatt, with Fan Guest of Honor George Starkey and Toastmaster Lou Harry, writer. Tickets are $50 at the door and include visits to the Doctor Who room, Anime room, and much more. • The annual Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra concert at Ellenberger Park (5301 E. St. Clair) will be held July 8 at 8 p.m. Bring a lawn chair to this free event.<br />
• Congratulations to RecycleForce, which just received a substantial federal grant to support their mission to provide work and training to ex-offenders. RecycleForce offers free recycling of electronics, paper, metal, glass and plastic. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>• Congratulations to Cindy Lewis Hartshorn! She will receive the 2013 Indiana Governor’s Arts Award. Cindy is head of the music department at Arsenal Technical HS in Indianapolis where she graduated herself. She has done wonders with the department with dwindling resources, winning numerous awards and keeping the choirs front and center at Disney, the State Fair, and various state and community events. Cindy joins an illustrious group of former recipients in Robert Indiana, Bill Blass, Hoagy Carmichael, and Karl Malden.<br />
• The once-a-month Irvington Farmer’s Market is July 14 from noon-3 p.m. at Ellenberger Park. Looking forward to picking up some fresh produce.<br />
• Neighbors were recently alerted to the presence of coyotes in the Eastgate and Irvington neighborhoods. While coyotes are frightened of humans, they do consider dogs and cats prey. Please keep a close watch on your pets when they are outside.<br />
• As of July 1st, a new state law went into affect whereby any catalytic converter, air conditioner or parts from an air conditioner, cannot be sold at a scrap metal facility unless the person attempting to sell it can prove they are the owner or they work for an automotive or HVAC company. There have been several reports of air conditioner thefts from churches and vacant buildings. Please keep an eye out and call in suspicious activity.<br />
• Dr. David W. Wantz has been appointed to a four-year term on The Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees by the Indianapolis Board of School Commissioners. He lives on the south side, and is a Special Assistant to the President for Public Affairs at the University of Indianapolis and is a tenured professor of psychology.<br />
• July is National Ice Cream Month and the American Dairy Association of Indiana will be holding its 24th Annual Ice Cream Social on Monument Circle July 12 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundaes are only $3 and proceeds will benefit the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana. Make mine chocolate ice cream with hot fudge, extra whipped cream, please!<br />
• The Indianapolis Symphony will be at Ellenberger Park July 16 at 7:30 p.m. for one of the best attended Symphony in the Park programs. Bring your folding chairs, blanket, snacks, and make an evening of it. There will be free shuttle service and parking at Community Hospital East, 1500 N. Ritter. If it rains, come to the Warren Performing Arts Center to enjoy the music.<br />
• Another food co-op is sprouting up soon, the Pleasant Run Grocer in Fountain Square. If you are interested in becoming a charter member, visit pleasantrungrocer.coop or find them on Facebook. The one-time fee is only $75, which makes you a member-owner.</p>
