Sponsored by the Central Indiana Bicycling Association, Inc. (CIBA), the 22nd Annual NITE Ride event has moved to the 4-H Exhibit Hall in the Indiana State Fairgrounds.
New this year will be bicycle racing around one-mile course at speeds exceeding 30 mph. The Indiana State Fairgrounds Cycling Grand Prix will feature races for cyclists of all ages and abilities culminating with the Men’s Elite race at 8:00 pm. Competition will be stiff with Texas Roadhouse, Bissell-ABG-Giant, Upland Brewing, Team Nebo Ridge, and Zipp Masters racing teams expected in attendance.
Approximately 4,000 riders of all ages, including Mayor Greg Ballard and his wife, are expected to join bicyclists who will ride from the State Fairgrounds to Butler University, the Indianapolis Art Museum and downtown to Monument Circle. More than 90 Indianapolis police officers, along with volunteers, will guide the bicyclists along the route. The ride consists of a shorter 15-mile route, along with a longer 20-mile route this year.
Although the official ride doesn’t start until 11 p.m., CIBA also sponsors a morning ride and a dinner ride, free-of-charge the same day. Bicyclists can also register the day of the event at the State Fairgrounds 4-H Exhibit Hall.
